As far as business data goes, Google Analytics reigns supreme! Google Analytics and adobe are continuing to bring new insights about consumer behaviors through their analytics
Google Analytics users are going to notice a change in the once familiar name as it changed to Google Analytics Solutions. The name change is probably a reflection of the fact that the traditional Google analytics tool is just one of the products that Google is offering.

Urban Decay Cosmetics is a popular makeup brand sold out of stores such as Sephora and Ulta. Urban Decay’s slogan “Beauty with an edge” perfectly describes their products because of their vibrant bright eye shadow palettes, eyeliners, full coverage foundations and flawless concealers. They now have an advantage by using social media to attract more fans with the launch of their new blog “The Violet underground.” You probably rolled your eyes once you saw the word ‘blog’ but it’s actually proven quite successful in a short amount of time. According to deniseholt.com their blog feels more like an interactive beauty magazine by doing Women’s Rights Awards, Music Mondays and many more. Urban Decay also purchased L’Oreal last November, which gives them an opportunity for a bigger audience, not to mention they are also cruelty free and even carry vegan products within their line. Their blog gives users a chance to interact with the company and makes the brand a little more personal and hands on. They are also able to use their blog to promote the brand and announce upcoming launches. Although great blogs are being saturated amongst other random blogs such as this one it definitely works for them so congrats to Urban Decay!
Let the games begin; the olympics are here and they are in full effect! If there is anything that we know about social media it’s that any big event will be covered on it and certain outlets like Facebook with over 1.5 BILLION active users will serve a huge platform for advertisers to spam us all. With that being said the USOC (United States Olympic Committee) has compiled a long drawn out list of things that “commercial entities” can’t post on social media...if you're confused like me on what that actually means then to simplify it the Search Engine Journal states if your business isn’t an official sponsor for the olympics then don’t do the following:
2. Don’t use any USOC trademarked words or phrases like Olympic, Olympian, Olympiad, Team USA, Go for Gold, and the phrase I used to headline this blog “Let the games begin.” 3. Don’t mention the location of the olympics this includes: Rio 2016, Pyeongchang 2018 or Tokyo 2020. 4. Don’t share, retweet or repost anything from official Olympic accounts, or use hashtags like #teamUSA or #Rio2016. And my personal favorite rule… 5. Don’t wish athletes good luck on social media. The crazy part is that there are many more rules and restrictions online concerning the USOC, these are just my favorites! Good luck posting to anyone with a business! We are all familiar with Walmart, and we all have our opinions on the popular grocery store chain. Some people love it and some hate it, someone who is familiar with people hating Walmart is their Director of Social Media Umang Sha who even quotes that people think of Walmart as an "Evil Empire." Sha is working to center more positive news around the slogan "Live Better" by focusing on the good Walmart does for the community like how they donated 2,450 loaded trucks to victims of Hurricane Katrina or how they have donated 2 billion dollars to help end world hunger. Walmart's desire to shift the way people perceive it is happening by them share corporate news and sharing information about how Walmart is helping society. Using Twitter as an outlet, they created different handles that all target a different audience so that everyone receives more relevant information and so they aren't annoyed by info they don't want to see. They are also going to be working around the clock to answer questions as soon as possible!
Go Walmart! As much as I hate to admit it, I'm totally obsessed with social media, which is okay because I am not alone as a matter of fact 73% of Americans have at least one social media account! With way more than half of American's having social media, it has become a huge platform for advertising. Though it may seem really easy to jump right in and make a business social media account there's a lot of strategy that comes with it. According to forbes.com here are some things to remember: 1. "Treat your followers like actually people" meaning pay less attention to numbers and more attention to the non-spam comments or shares. 2. "Focus on who people are and not what they give you." Build personal relationships with customers!
Image recognition and analysis. As we are advancing more and more in technology and social media is becoming more important, it’s time for the next big thing: Image recognition and analysis. People are sharing more of their personal lives on social media, actually 1.8 billion photos are shared everyday. It helps out brands too! We have all seen someone at one time or another express utter disappoint in a brand by posting a picture of it to their news feed. If you are the brand then you wont know you’re being mentioned until they “@” you. But these days they are working on making it so that the brand is recognized and is able to get feedback directly.
YouTube Live.Young or old or anything in between, everyone knows about YouTube and has probably used it before. Most probably use it to watch their favorite music video or to watch a tutorial on anything from makeup to learning how to change a spare tire; now they've made it to where you can stream live! In a world ran by Snapchat, Periscope and now Facebook Live, YouTube decided to take their turn on the live streaming boat! Live streaming actually isn't new for YouTube, seeing as though they created it back in 2011, before live streaming was even trending. The difference now is that it's compatible with mobile devices and the live streaming will still be available to view even if you don't catch it live! Product leader Kurt Wilms says it's more reliable than anything out there-well I guess we'll just have to see. This is another way to use advertising space!
How zara is using social Media to increase sales. It's no secret that Zara is one of the top fast fashion brands in the world, but what some don't know is that it has a whopping 11.5 million Instagram followers. As you can Imagine, Social Media has a huge influence over the brand and over its sales in general. According to Inditex they have increased sales by 17% during just the first half of this year and 7% in same store sells. A big reason for this increase is because of how fast Zara's fast fashion really is! Zara.com states that 50%-60% of Zara's clothes are manufactured in the middle of the season so if polka dots suddenly become a thing again, Zara gets them into stores while they're still trending! Using Social Media accounts like Instagram, they are able to show pictures what's in their stores and provide a link in their bio that takes you directly to the site! Thus creating traffic and increasing sales!
Some of their competitors might want to take notes. (No shade) |
